Founder of Clear Path International
Imbert Mathee, Founder of Clear Path, which assists landmine victims and their families, talks about what inspires him.
"One's life is a window of opportunity. With the limited time we have, we can make many choices, and we can be guided in making these decisions. Helping to reduce some of the suffering in former war zones through my work with Clear Path is the choice I have made at this time in my life. I see it affirmed as the right choice in so many ways every day."
At Clear Path International, he focuses mainly on victim assistance programs, fundraising and public relations.
Raised in the Netherlands and educated in the United States and England, Imbert Matthee worked for most of his 15-year career as an international journalist before making the switch to humanitarian work in Southeast Asia. Matthee was Pacific Rim Correspondent and Business Reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer for six years, covering overseas assignments in Asia, Europe and Latin America, and making frequent contributions to the New York Times News Service. He also worked as a reporter for ABC News, the Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, Everett Herald and Bellingham Herald. Matthee received an M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 1987 and a B.A. in Journalism from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA in 1985. Matthee lives on Bainbridge Island with his wife and two sons.
